What is stored on your device

Simply Named stores journey answers, shortlist, dislikes, seen history, preferences and saved baby/pet groups on this device in SQLite/app storage. Private inputs, including heritage preferences, surname, sibling or household context, pet profiles and notes, stay local: account sync, purchases and public voting do not send them to our service. A full export can include private inputs, so review it before sharing.

How recommendations work

Recommendations are generated on-device from your selections and the catalogue. Catalogue updates and reviewed voice packs are downloaded from the configured service. Device text-to-speech sends the selected name to your chosen platform voice; that provider may use an online service under its own privacy terms. Private journey inputs are not sent to a live AI service.

Google sign-in and optional cloud sync

Google sign-in is used for account services, purchases and gifts. Google processes authentication under its own terms. Our API verifies the Google ID token and keeps a pseudonymous account binding derived from the Google subject, not your Google email or profile name. The app stores its account session in platform secure storage. Purchase validation also sends an installation identifier to bind the signed offline entitlement to this installation.

Optional cloud sync sends only outputs you explicitly choose: stable name IDs, saved group membership and order, with account-bound revision and operation IDs. It does not upload questionnaires, surnames, family or pet profiles, private notes or full exports. Saved cloud outputs remain until you delete them or delete your account.

One-time purchases and gifts

Google Play handles payment details. Our service receives the product and purchase token, an account binding and store purchase/status information to verify, acknowledge, restore and reconcile purchases and refunds. Store tokens are encrypted in our payment ledger. A gift purchase creates one recoverable code; redemption records the recipient account and full-unlock grant. Gift codes are protected, with a hash used for redemption. Share a code only with the intended recipient. Refunds or voids can revoke the corresponding grant. This release has no subscriptions.

Exporting and sharing

When you export your data, Simply Named creates a JSON file in the app cache and invokes the Android/OS share sheet. If you choose another app or destination, that destination receives a copy outside the app's control.

A public voting link contains only the title and names you explicitly select, not your private journey. Do not put private information in its title. Anyone with the link can view and vote. Guest voting uses a browser cookie and a stored hash to associate a vote with that browser; it does not verify a person. Owners see aggregate results, not browser tokens. Links expire after 30 days or can be revoked earlier; revocation removes public contents and votes. Copies made by recipients cannot be recalled.

Name reports and support

Submitting a name report sends the selected name/fact and catalogue version, category and the text you enter, linked to your account. Authorized reviewers can access reports and record status and correction links. Please do not include sensitive personal information. Reports become eligible for deletion 365 days after submission, or are removed earlier when you delete your account. Emailing support sends your email address and message to our support mailbox.

Deleting your data

In-app delete clears app-owned user data and cached exports. Clearing app data or uninstalling Simply Named also removes app-owned local data. These actions do not remove copies that were shared to destinations outside the app.

Cloud-output deletion is separate from local deletion. Delete your account and cloud data requires fresh Google sign-in and explicit confirmation; the app also provides an account-deletion action. Account deletion removes saved cloud outputs and their operation history, reports and public share contents/votes, and invalidates sessions. Local data, exports elsewhere and Google's own payment records are not deleted. Signing in again does not recover deleted outputs, but valid purchases can be restored.

Minimal pseudonymous account/purchase bindings, encrypted store tokens, payment status and gift fulfillment remain after account deletion while needed to restore the permanent entitlement and prevent duplicate gift or payment fraud. There is no automatic fixed purge; support requests are handled subject to legal and contractual necessity. Shares expire after 30 days; reports are eligible for deletion after 365 days; anonymous totals cover 30 UTC calendar days. Physical deletion uses bounded hourly cleanup and may be delayed by backlog or service outages.

Azure SQL short-term backups are retained for 7 days, with no long-term retention configured. Container Apps sends hosting logs to Log Analytics with 30-day retention. Deleted data may remain in backups until they expire; deleted-account state must be reapplied when restoring a backup. Support correspondence has a separate retention schedule that must be finalized before commercial launch; these backup, log and database periods do not determine how long support email is kept.

Optional anonymous app analytics

Analytics is off by default. If you explicitly enable it, the app sends only a fixed event name, such as a journey starting or a name being saved, without the actual name, question, answer, account, device or session identifier. There are no event properties, cookies or authentication headers, no third-party analytics SDK and no offline replay. The service keeps daily aggregate counts for 30 UTC calendar days; older counts are removed by bounded hourly cleanup. Withdrawing consent stops future events. Prior anonymous counts cannot be singled out for deletion and are not removed by account deletion.

The app has no advertising or configured mobile crash-reporting service. Optional reminders are scheduled locally. This is not a claim that Google, your platform voice or hosting providers process no technical metadata.

This policy is served by the Appsolutely Fabulous static website. Visiting it sends standard connection information to its Azure host. Read the website privacy information for those details. This page does not collect form data or load analytics, advertising or cookies.
